We have Earth Day in April and if I recall right it also started in 1972. I had never heard of World Environmental Day, but I think it is a darn good idea.

Ironically, as I type this comment, I can hear the squealing brakes, and the stopping and starting of the trash man's truck, as he is working my street, picking up curbside containers of glass, plastics and paper. Another company will be along later this morning for my trash.

Have you ever peeked into the containers, to see how well people are doing in separating their disposables? It irks me no end to see a half-eaten sandwich casually tossed in with newspapers. Grr... Oops, sorry to get carried away like that! :-)
I think World Environment Day is an excellent idea, too. We have trash/recycling separation here in Boise, altho it's voluntary. But I think a majority of citizens do it.
