Theme Day - Books

I found these books in Leeds Castle. They used to belong to Lady Baillie, the last person to use the castle as a home.
Today is Theme Day and the subject is "Books"

There are 178 blogs participating in this theme day.

Peacock

Leeds Castle is renowed for its aviary. This is one of the many birds they have there.

The fair breeze blew...

If you look closely on this work I found inside the Grotto in Leeds Castle you will read Samuel Taylor Coleridge (died 74 years ago today) which says:

“The fair breeze blew, the white foam flew,
The furrow followed free;
We were the first that ever burst
Into that silent sea.”

Fountain in Leeds Castle

A few days ago I went to Leeds Castle again and the beautiful and very small inner courtyard was open to the public. I have always wanted to go in there and this time, not only I was allowed in but we were also blessed with beautiful sunshine which made the whole place look magical.

I took several photos of the windows and a couple of the fountain. I thought I would share it with you.

Verdigris Lion

I rarely touch my photos on photoshop except when I use black and white photos but today I was playing with this one and it looked rather nice so here it is.
A rather verdigris lion!

Louis Vuitton Suitcase

I run out of pictures so I decided to take a photo of one of the suitcases in my large collection of Louis Vuitton... just joking!
This is a case in the bedroom of Lady Baillie in Leeds Castle. As you can see the room is beautifully decorated. If you ever visit pay particular attention to her bathroom and her very impressive collection of shoes.

Can you see it?

Can you see Leeds Castle behind the tree?

Grotto Ceiling

In Leeds Castle there is a maze and right in the centre you will find a grotto that leads you back to the outside world.
The grotto is beautiful but the lack of lighting doesn't allow you to see all the details. It wasn't until I got back home and looked at the photos that I noticed the beautiful colour of the stones and shells used in the panels.
This photo above shows the ceiling and various panels. In the centre you can see a hole where the sunlight comes in.
If you ever visit Leeds Castle, please don't miss it!
