Theme Day: The Colour Yellow

I have to use this opportunity to show you one of my favourite things in a church: a hassock.

Hassocks are cushions that people use to kneel. Used in churches they tend to be hand stitched in all sorts of motifs. To see the ones I showed before click here

I found this one in St Mary's in Stodmarsh.

Hassock Series: Spring

Today is the first day of Spring but given the fact that it is still cold and rainy the only photo I could show you that does justice to the weather we get in Spring is this one.

I found hassock this in a church in Lower Hardres.

With all the running around to sort out the purchase/decoration (maybe I should say reconstruction) of my new home, I hardly had time to take photos so here is (again) another hassock!

Queen Elizabeth II

Today the Queen celebrates her 57th year in the throne.

I found this hassock in St Dunstan Church. It was knitted by local ladies to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

A few days ago when I visited St Peter's Church I spoke to a lovely woman who was looking after the place.
I asked her if she had knitted any of the hassocks and she told me that she didn't know which one she knitted but it was a light blue one... just like this.

Today I learnt that those cushions in churches used to kneel or rest one's feet are called hassocks.
I love them and I found this one in St Mary's Church in Stodmarsh near Canterbury, Kent.
They had several hassocks, each one with a unique pattern hand embroidered and so pretty.
