King's Mill in Canterbury

The history of King's Mill of Canterbury is very rich as it was not an ordinary mill.
It was originally called Abbot's Mill but also had other names such as Eastbridge Mill and Kingsbridge Mill.
Now all we have left is this plaque...

Things are indeed tough and for churches out in the country they are even tougher!

Marlowe Arcade

Althougth this shopping arcade was open in 1985, last year, it went through extensive refurbisment and it now houses the more expensive brands in Canterbury.

Vandals

It is amazing but some people think that engraving their names on one of the most beautiful and oldest buildings in the world is cool.

I found this sign on the Water Tower in Canterbury Cathedral.

I love Canterbury

Although I don't usually subscribe to graffiti I had to admit, I like this one!

It reflects how I feel about Canterbury.

Garderobe

Any idea of what a Garderobe is?
According to the word "Garderobe" comes from "Middle English, from Old French, from garder to watch, guard + robe clothing " and it dates back from 15th century.
It is also another word for a privy (a sort of toilet).
This one is in Dover Castle and they use artificial smells to give the visitors an idea of how smelly it used to be!

Gregory Blaxland born in 17th June 1778

Today we celebrate the birth of Gregory Blaxland, an English explorer who was born in Fordwich and spent a great tiem in Australia.
He not only led an expedition to the Blue Mountains but also was one of the first settlers to introduce grapes for wine making in Australia.

St Thomas of Canterbury

Although Canterbury is the HQ of Church of England and it owns most of the land in town, this Catholic church sits not far from the High Street.

Lunchtime

You will find this tree just by the bridge across the stream in Godmersham. When I took this picture there were two friends sitting on the sidewall of the bridge eating their sandwiches at lunch time.

Can you think of a better place to have your lunch? I can't!

Canterbury Castle

I love Canterbury Castle. The ruins are such a romantic setting and really gets your imagination going...

Unfortunately, the signs, although useful, are every where making the place look like just another place for tourists.
