My beautiful Canterbury

This is one of the most adorable cottages/houses in Canterbury. It is not far from Canterbury Castle and in a sunny day this looks just like one of those country cottages you see in puzzles!

Hydrangeas

This is what the hydranges look like around here. They started the Summer with a nice and delicate pink and as time went by they turned into this beautiful mixture of deep reds and dark pinks.

Windows Series - Chilham Castle

Time for another window...
This picture was taken in Chilham Castle, one of the most beautiful houses in Canterbury area.
The people living there must really love it because it is incredibly looked after and heard they even have a historian looking into the history of the house.
It is not usually open to the general public but I managed to visit it in one of their few open days.

Red Hot Poker

Originally from Madagascar the Red Hot Poker is one of my favourite plant.

They grow up to 60 inches high and look wonderful in a garden when everything else starts fading away. The are also known as Kniphofia, Torch lily, and Poker plant but its Latin name is Kniphofia uvaria.

For years I tried to grow some in my garden unsuccessfully until this year when I had one that was a lot smaller than this one on the Franciscan Gardens.

A Rose from Walmer

Walmer Castle is well known for its beautiful gardens. I found this rose there.

This is the type of flower arrangements you find in churches during the summer.

This one I found in St Nicholas in Ash. It was part of the floral arrangement for a wedding on the previous Saturday...

Roses and wine

I m not sure if I have told you but Roses are, by far, my favourite flowers.

I found this bush in a vineyard in Staple a few days ago.

Yeah, the guys at Barnsole Vineyard can look after their roses as well as make excellent wine.

Zantedeschia (aka Calla Lilly, Arum was named as a tribute to the Italian botanist Giovanni Zantedeschi by Kurt Sprengel, a German botanist.

Native from Southern Africa, the Zantedeschia grows up to 2.5 tall and has leaves up to 45cm long. They are fairly easy to cultivate and comes in a variety of colours.

The Zantedeschia is very very toxic and it can kill a child or animal if they eat it.

Bluebells

This is that time of the year when forests in England are covered in a carpet of bluebells.

In England it is illegal - and imoral - to pick bluebells grown in the wild.

Picnic

I love going out for a picnic on a warm and sunny spring day.
So today I went out with my camera, a sandwich, a drink, a rug and a book and had a lovely time. While I was there I thought of you so here is a picture.
