Hydrangeas

This is what the hydranges look like around here. They started the Summer with a nice and delicate pink and as time went by they turned into this beautiful mixture of deep reds and dark pinks.
Absolutely wonderful...

Allotment

I moved to the UK back in 1993 and until then I had no idea of the existence of allotments.
They are small parcels of land, usually provided by the council, where people grow food and sometmes flowers too.
This allotment is in Broadoak in the outskirts of Canterbury.

The Meadow at Greyfriars

A few weeks ago I showed you the meadow next to the Greyfriars. This is what it looks like this week.

Red Hot Poker

Originally from Madagascar the Red Hot Poker is one of my favourite plant.

They grow up to 60 inches high and look wonderful in a garden when everything else starts fading away. The are also known as Kniphofia, Torch lily, and Poker plant but its Latin name is Kniphofia uvaria.

For years I tried to grow some in my garden unsuccessfully until this year when I had one that was a lot smaller than this one on the Franciscan Gardens.

Glorious Red

Last Sunday, David and I went for a boat trip up and down the River Stour. I took these photo while we were there.
Needless to say that I could not capture the beautiful shades of reds and browns that we could see in the real leaves.
Absloutely stunning

Meadow

This is the meadow next to the Greyfriars Priory.
I guess it must have looked lovely a few weeks ago. I must make sure I come back in Spring or Summer next year to show you this meadow in its full glory.

Lavender blue...

Lavender's blue,
diddle diddle
Lavender's green,
When I am king,
diddle diddle
You shall be queen.

This is one of my favourite nursery rhymes so I thought I would share it with you.
I took this photo on Sunday, 20th July when they were having a European Market in St George's Street.

Preston Nursery

This week I had the pleasure to visit what is certainly one of the most well looked after nurseries in Kent.

With only 4 members of staff - all extremely polite and helpful - they do a fantastic job. You can tell that the plants there are not only well attended to but also loved.

They have a variety of trees and hard to find plants but not roses. I bought several herbs including a pot of Bronze Dill.
The pot in the picture was on sale there too...
If you want to find out more about them visit their website www.prestonnursery.co.uk

Mushrooms

A couple of month someone said to me "All mushrooms are edible. Some of them only once!"
I would love to be a mushroom hunter but unfortunately I know nothing about them. I took this picture near Garlinge Green.
Do you know anything about mushroom? Do you know the name of this one? Let me know...

Green Home

I found this beautiful and so interesting house in Stodmarsh.
Don't you think it is very pretty? I do and I would love to live in there not only because it is a gorgeous home but also because it is opposite the pub I showed you the other day!
