Waterstones in Canterbury

I chose Waterstones as my corner shop because it is my favourite shop in town. Usually my family and I sit in the cafe upstairs while we browse books that we are thinking about buying but are not sure.

When my daughter Elida saw this photo, she asked me if they made this display specially for me because apart from the Cricket topic on the left, I adore all the other subjects.

If you look closer at the themes, you will see Photography on the very left, followed by Travel, with Languages (I speak only 3 but understand 5 and I am working on it) on the front and one of my hobbies: Sudoku. After that you can see Cookery and Wine (French, yes!). All of this is on a street called Rose Lane.

I guess they missed the Shoes theme but I took another picture and posted it in my shoe blog so it won't feel jealous...hehehe

How great to have such a delightful bookshop nearby, and on Rose Lane no less! And you're right - nice collection of topics featured in the window. I have The Travel Book; if you haven't flipped through it yet, be sure to do so -- you'll soon want to travel to countries you hardly knew anything about!

Rose i adore Waterstones! I like the ones with the coffee shop in too. What a treat to browse and buy, then sit down with a drink looking at them. When i have a treat in town alone, it's usually that. Great meeting place too. The best thing is receiving book tokens, then knowing you have a delicious excuse to be there! Great corner shop.

Rose, your photo brings back pleasant memories - I will confess to shopping at Waterstone's on my visit to London a few years ago. Furthermore, I will plead guilty to filling a suitcase full of books to take home with me - Iain Banks, Jasper Fforde, and dear old Harry Potter books among others... in their original language. :-) But I'm glad this isn't my corner shop, or I'd be penniless.

Rose, I can't get around to everyone's blogs but wanted to check yours out today. I loved the descriptions and analogies you gave!

The coincidences to yourself and this image are indeed remarkable. As chain stores go this is one of the better ones, but I am a sucker for a good book and coffeeshop combined anyway.
Even here we have one, though alas Douglas not Ramsey. Excellent personal choice.

I think your daughter's point was well-made! I does indeed sound like your kind of place! Great post, Rose, I always enjoy reading your blog!

I do believe I could be happy for a lifetime within these walls. Great choice for theme day!

It looks like you just had to post this perfect scene! I bought three handbags yesterday; two were made by Baskets of Cambodia. I've had one of theirs for years and get regular compliments on it, so I just got some different ones in lime green and brown pinstripe.

well it isn't my idea of a corner shop [comment not criticism] but I'm sure my wife would love it.

I will make sure next time I am in Waterstones I flip through a copy of The Travel Book!

Lynn
You are right about it being a great meeting place. My writing group meets there for coffee once a month.

Knoxville
You read Jasper FForde? Wow...my husband is a great fan and I have heard all about his books and plots.

Michael
Thank you. I am honoured.

Babooshka
I know what you mean about chains. They often lack the personal treatment you get in small shops. Waterstones in Canterbury somehow managed to train its staff in such a way that you still feel their favourite customer.

Kelly
I apreciate your visit. Thank you so much for enjoying my blog.

Chuck
Book worm uhm?

USelaine
I will check the site out.

I know what you mean about "the corner shop" thing but since I don't use such a corner shop, I thought I would pick something that I like - and it is in a corner!!

Great choice. when I am in a bookstore or a museum, I simply loose the dimension of time, completely.
