Hymnal or hymnary?

According to Merriam-Websters dictionary both words can be used for a Book of Hymns.
Here we have some, neatly lined up in a shelf, in the Church of St Mary in Fordwich

After being initially pulled in by the red books, I notice that I really like all the stone work in the background!

I am glad I stopped by: i've just learned two new words. And you just referenced one of my favorite website. I loooove dictionnaries.

How interesting ... Are these hymnals for the choir, or do parishioners pick up a copy as they enter? I don't recall having seen hymnals on a shelf like this before ...

"Louis" thanks you for expanding his vocabulary by adding hymnary to it! hehehe "Louis" has a small collection of hymnals - so he found this post to be very interesting!

I would say 'hymnal' but I accept that there are many words outside of my knowledge!
