I was just trying to work out just how many different phases of work are shown in that one piece of stonework. Originally there was a door / window, which was bricked up. Was thet lentil added and it opened up again before it was finally bricked up for good?
Who knows? I could go and poke about at it, but I would probably get sidetracked and start hunting for snails in the crevices.

when I see such places I wish I had a time machine just to go back and glimpse the place in all its glory. Judith

that is amazing to see; the different colors and patterns. Wonder what stories await there?
I too love old stones. They are truly timeless.
Only wish they could "talk" to us!
