Is it haunted?

Cemiteries are often spooky and this is one of the spookiest I have ever been.
Behind a very quiet and neglected church, with the tall unkept grass covering several of the tombs, this cemitery has an air of abandoment that only haunted places have.
Having said that, I have never heard if the cemitery in St Mary's Church, Fordwich is home for ghosts or not.

I noticed many photographs of grave sites in European cemeteries leave the grass grow tall and go to seed. I guess it is never cut.

Here where we live in the US, the cemeteries cut the grass like a golf course and it costs a fortune to keep the grass trimmed around the graves and tombstones.

What a big difference it is.

In England most cemiteries are well kept but this time of the year the grass and weed grow very fast and taking into account that most of the gardening in the cemiteries is done by volounteers - often elderly - we have to be understanding.
But it does make a difference when the grounds are well kept...

What Abraham says is true, usually they're kept very well here. But I like the entropy of the old churchyards in England. Especially the hidden, forgotten ones. Gives it an air of mystery, which your photo shows so well, Rose.

Rose, this photo was worth the wait! Where I live in Tennessee, we have some well kept park-like cemeteries, but there are also small family cemeteries that pop up in the country from pioneer days before there were big cities, or even a nearby church.

I love the atmosphere of your photo! It looks infrared.
Where I grew up in the Midwestern U.S., there were a lot of small cemeteries next to little country churches that looked similar to the one in your photo. Many of the gravestones were quite old, of the pioneering families who came to the area and founded the church.

Knoxville girl, have you posted one of those? I'd love to see it.

Ms M, the type of cemetery you describe sounds a bit like the Afton Township Cemetery in northern Illinois, where my father's buried. It's not associated with a church, but it's small and out in the fields, with a stand of virgin prairie grass at one end of it.

Rose, this is a beautiful shot! The black and white was an excellent choice! I have to agree with Mr. Lincoln, I think that less frequent trimming of the grass not only makes sense, but lends a special quality to the cemetery.

Rose
I'm very busy at the moment because of my accounting studies so I can't visit you as often as I would like. Sorry...

I love cemeteries, they are so peaceful places
This one is beautiful especially in B&W.

Well I'm glad the grass has not been so well maintained, just for this image. It's a stunning B&W study. The lighting does give it a ghostly appearance. If it isn't haunted, it deserves to be. Who wouldn't want to haunt such a graveyard?

You certainly have the beginnings of a ghost story with this post... and I love the B&W and wow...

I think long grass like this is more appropriate in a graveyard than grass kept short.

In fact it's nicer and more natural in an any setting.

Nice photo :)
