Old Red Lion
This building used to be a pub called Red Lion but sometime ago it was transformed into a Indian Restaurant and its name was changed to Laggan - Flavour of India.
Do you know the TV show, "Jeopardy"? Tonight one of the clues was color and animal most mentioned in pub names in Great Britain, or something like that. I guessed red lion, and here you have a great photo of a Red Lion Pub! And that was that correct answer, too. Neat!
I'm so happy when you put pictures with the streets there. This one looks so quiet. I noticed that in all photos the streets are almost empty. Is it that peacefull all the time there? Can't wait to arrive, I have 85 days to go :D.
Rose, How lovely this is and thankyou so much for the dedication. BUT I think there must be several Red Lions. The house I owned was on the Canterbury to Sandwich road. It's called Red Lion House and it's surrounded by pear orchards - and strawberry fields - could it have changed this much? Perhaps it's built up like this since I left. I sold it in 1985. Perhaps my memory fails me (possible!). My Red Lion House wasn't attached to other houses like this - it was in the country and on a very sharp bend. Narrow road.
Later: I just Google Earthed it. And it's still there, standing alone amongst fields. Lots of cars behind it because I sold it to a car dealer! When I get back to Menton (I'm in America at the moment) I'll dig up an old photo and scan it and send it to you.
I do thank you for this tho. I vaguely remember there were other Red Lions, now I come to think of it. means another trip one day! (big grin).
I haven't got your email address with me in America else I'd write privately. Just to say I remembered my exact address last night! Red Lion House, Each End, Ash, nr Canterbury, Kent. Each End is a tiny hamlet.
Thank you all for the comments. I am sorry I haven't been able to reply to questions, comments etc.
Petrea, It is very very English...
Jill, I will go back there and find Each End but that won't be until after the 10th... but don;t worry I will take lots and lots of pictures of your old home...
Nicole The place is not as quiet during the day. I tend to take photos when there is less people to spoil the pictures. Canterbury is always busy and full of life.
Kris And to drink, Sir?
Cali I have realised recently that I like quaint and that is shown on my work :)

It's still quite lovely and quite British, though, isn't it? How sweet of you to dedicate to Jilly.

I used to live in the Red Lion at Each End -- my family sold it in 1974.
Here is a picture of it this summer -- when I go to the UK I try to drop by and see how it is doing.
