A new photo of the beautiful city of Canterbury in Kent and surrounding area every day.

Geoffrey Templeman

A few days ago I went to Canterbury Cathedral and found this stone and dedication in on one of the walls. When I came home, I looked up his name in Wikipedia with no success, then I tried Encarta, Encyclopedia Britannica and again no luck.
As I searched in Googgle I found a bit more but not much more than "Medieval Historian and founding Vice Chancellor of University of Kent at Canterbury."
It stroke me as how could some who had so much influnce in people's lives be forgotten so easily...

In the Bible book of Ecclesiastes in chapter 1 and verse 4 it talks about "a generation is coming and a generation is going..." and in that same book of the bible in chapter 9 and the end of verse 5 in talking about the dead it says..."the remembrance of them has been forgotten." It doesn't mean that God has forgotten them, just we humans have forgotten them as a generation comes and goes. Does that make sense? I hope so!

How interesting that though there isn't much to be found about him he was still important enough at one time to get a stone... how truly odd.

Like dust in the wind...

Churches are often looking for donations to keep their prosperity. The stone was most likely placed there on behalf of a family (most likely) donation knowing how well he must have enjoyed worship there.

As long as those close to him remembered him and knew about him, all else might not matter.

Also, i did a quick google search myself on him, and i found that the library at Kent University is called "Templeman Library" which is quite substantial in memorium.
